The Getares kitesurf spot, located west of Algeciras, is a wide beach area that usually works as an alternative when strong Levante winds above 30 knots are blowing in Tarifa, as conditions here are typically slightly milder. It is a spot highly dependent on strong wind events in the Strait of Gibraltar and does not work consistently throughout the year.
During the summer season there is no designated kitesurfing area, so its use is limited or not recommended at all during peak season. The prevailing wind is usually very onshore, which reduces the safety margin and makes it unsuitable for beginners, being more appropriate for experienced riders who can handle demanding conditions.

Mainly suitable for intermediate and advanced riders. Although it may look like a calm beach, the Levante wind is usually very on-shore, which requires control and experience.
It only works with strong Levante wind in the Strait. The wind is usually weaker than in Tarifa.
The main risk is the wind direction, which is usually very on-shore, making it difficult for beginners. Outside summer, there are also often waves.
The spot works mainly during Levante episodes throughout the year. In summer, kitesurfing is not allowed.
It depends on wind strength, but typically between 9–12m. On very strong days, riders may need 5–7m kites.
Kitesurfing is not allowed during summer months, from June 15 to September 15.
Easy access from the Getares road, with parking areas near the promenade. On windy days, the area can get quite busy with kiters.
It is not recommended for beginners due to wind direction.
To go to Getares kitesurf Spot, take the exit from Tarifa to Algeciras, take Getares exit and continue until you reach the beach. About 20km.
